About Collin County Station

Who are "we"?

  My name is Frank Vest. No, I'm not kin to the Vests in the area. I don't think so anyway. I'm from Oklahoma. My wife's job decided we needed a change of scenery and so we ended up here. I have two children of my own and two from my wife's previous marriages. We have several grandchildren. Yes, they are grand! Yes, I'm fairly happy living in Collin County. Like all places, it has its good and not so good things.:)

What is Collin County Station?

  Collin County Station is, for lack of a better term, a "web directory". Not what I would call a normal web directory. This one is hand edited and offers a bit more than just links to other places. There is a history of the county and there are pages with histories of the cities in the county. There are also photos and other bits of information. I try to keep the site updated and the links current. That can get to be a trick with the number of links on the site <chuckle>.

  We (me, myself and I) are always working on the site to make it better, add things and such. Keep checking back. In all fairness, my wife often gets commendeered to help with spelling, opinions and other such things.

Starting out

  Collin County Station started life as a single page of links to places that I used regularly. It was simply easier to set that page as the "home page" in my browser and then click from there. Of course, the site was, and still is, open to the public. Did that make it a "Social Bookmark" page? Probably not :) Anyway, at that point in time, I was new at html and all the stuff that goes with it. I'm not an expert now, but I have improved a lot!

Through Time

  As time moved on, the one page became two and more. I hosted the first versions on my own computer, but the speed was less than good. A friend who had hosted a "hobby site" I made, offered to host the Collin County Station "site" and Collin County Station was "born". When the friend decided to quit hosing sites, I had to look for other hosting. The current hosting is with a major company and allows for more flexibility.

Where are you at?

  I live in McKinney, Texas. McKinney is the County Seat and located at the center of Collin county. That's not a bad place to be for a site about Collin County. It gives me a chance to visit the rest of the county without having to travel too far at a go. I manage the site from my home. No office or anything fancy like that.
